Refering to herself as a women's rights activist, Canan believes in the use of female bodies to convey her artistic expression. Her use of mediums ranges from mixed media, handicrafts, painting, Installation art all the way to video art. Since 1990 onward, Canan has been very active in producing her works with a great number of solo exhibition being held in the past decades. The artist has begun to employ the ideology of ancient Islamic cosmology, particularly the belief and formation of a form ‘jinn’ (supernatural creatures), which brings about interesting conversation about moral and ethical framework of modern society.
