Choi Jeong Hwa (South Korea) 'Happy Happy Project: Fruit Tree' 2017 inflatable tree, fabric 5 x 7 meters Collection of the Artist Choi Jeong Hwa has always been inspired by the everyday and recycled objects. For him, the market and junkshops are learning grounds where he draws creative thoughts. Choi loves to visit Chinatown in Bangkok where he uses plastic and accessories for his work. For Bangkok Art Biennale, 'Happy Happy Project’ concerns the paradoxical world of superficial happiness we live in. His large-scale plastic works 'Basket Tower,’ 'Love Me Pink Pig,' 'Fruit Tree,' ‘Breathing Flower,' 'About Being Irritated', and ‘Joker' are playful as well as menacing. Yet, his installations and inflatables at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, One Bangkok, Siam Center, Central Embassy, Peninsula Hotel, and Nai Lert Park Heritage Home bring momentary happy smiles to viewers.
