Miss Forest / Thinker

Miss Forest / Thinker
Yoshitomo Nara (Japan) 'Miss Forest / Thinker' 2016 urethane on bronze 500.4 x 139.7 x 158.8 cm. Collection of PACE Gallery, New York Internationally renowned, Yoshitomo Nara is the creator of the 'girl with a petulant face' who seems to show all her emotions through her facial expressions. With aesthetic elements similar to that of children's book illustrations, his works have been recognized and loved by a large group of fans worldwide. While viewers often misinterpret his works for their elements related to Pop Art, his sweet looking characters are not influenced by anime and manga, instead they reflect his solitude from growing up in a secluded environment as a child. For Bangkok Art Biennale, 'Your Dog' (2017) a gigantic dog similar to the one shown at Patong Beach in 2005 after the tsunami disaster, is displayed in a public space at One Bangkok. 'Miss Forest' (2016) is a sculpture in bronze inspired by nature and the supernatural, exploring the belief shared in Asia that local spirits and nymphs protect nature and forests.
