Phaptawan Suwannakudt (Thailand) 'Knowledge in your Hands, Eyes and Minds' 2018 Mural Painting, acrylic on canvas 220 x 160 cm. (4 pieces) Collection of the Artist Phaptawan Suwannakudt grew up in a family of artists. Her father, Paiboon Suwannakudt, was a pioneering Thai master artist. She followed in his footsteps and pursued mural painting before moving to Australia in 1996. Her works later shifted to focus on identity, displacement and homeland. Still, her references to the life of Buddha and the Three Worlds remain part of storytelling. Her site-specific multi-component installation at the enclosed cloister at Sra Jorakae (Crocodile Pond) at Wat Pho draws on epigraphic archives related to medical practice, design, literature, music, herbal massage and astrology. If knowledge is a path towards bliss, Phaptawan has returned home to Wat Pho to find herself in the creative realm that would make her father proud.
