Sornchai Phongsa (Thailand) 'ALIEN CAPITAL' 2018 installation, mixed media 8 x 8 x 3.5 meters Collection of the Artist Growing up in an ethnic labor community, Sornchai witnessed the poor quality life of laborors, especially those working in industrial factories. In Bangkok, a report reveals that the number of immigrant workers recently ranked over 240,000. In his participatory work titled, 'Alien Capital,' the artist reflects upon the marginalized life, the unnoticeable identity of these workers. Set in a big container of a construction site is the display of video, photos and documents disclosing their daily existence and data like forged employment papers. The container is wrapped with loose bamboo structures tied up together with red nylon rope signifying workers' united efforts against all hardship.
