Amrit Karki is a visual and performance artist whose interdisciplinary practice explores the relationship between the ephemeral and the eternal. He received his BFA from Kathmandu University and was awarded the UNESCO-Madanjeet Singh Scholarship and Nepal’s Creative Young Artist Award. His work has been presented at the Kathmandu Triennale, Asian Art Biennale, Islamabad International Art Festival, and Anyang Public Art Project.

A Fallen Petal Floating on the River of Time invites viewers to find themselves in the work, by approaching the performance in their bodies, with gestures and participation. When the mind beholds the world, the sensation of living is plucked away from the flow of time, just like A Fallen Petal Floating on the River of Time. We are pushed toward discomfort of transgression, toward the burden of social expectations. The bed promises renewal through rest, and water promises cleansing. The watery bed challenges the notion that a body deserves rest and peace. Instead of quiet meditation, the body is snared in worldly ambitions and a mindset fleeing away from indigenous modes of being and toward pursuing attainment and acquisition.
