Liu Hsing-Yu is an artist whose practice examines the interconnected relationships between agriculture, ecology, and gender. Working primarily with photography, Liu approaches the medium not only as a means of image-making but also as a space for participation, dialogue, and collective reflection. Liu’s works often invite audiences to engage with complex social and environmental questions through gestures that are at once thoughtful, accessible, and subtly playful. Liu received a Master of Fine Arts from National Kaohsiung Normal University.

Brushing Through Each Other and Stone Temple is a part of Liu’s ongoing intimate photographic series My Parents (2009–), in which the artist invites his father and mother to swap and wear one another’s celebratory costumes. Drawing on the visual narratives of family portrait poses, wedding photography, and holiday snapshots, the series unsettles conventional assumptions about gender, kinship, and care. Created as a site-responsive series for Angels and Mara, the photography installation explores compassion and conflict as acceptance and expectations that often coexist within the same space of a relationship. The work reveals the complexities of family life through moments of humor, intimacy and proud vulnerability.
