Htein Lin is a multidisciplinary artist, curator and writer from Myanmar. He trained in law and Anyeint (traditional Burmese theatre) before studying visual art in a refugee camp on the Indian border with artist Sitt Nyein Aye. Involved in the 1988 pro-democracy uprising, he returned to Yangon after four years in exile, working as a comic actor and pioneering experimental performance art. In 1998, he was accused of opposition activity and detained as a political prisoner until 2004. Following his release, Htein Lin moved to the UK, creating works that reflected his travels abroad and diasporic experience. Living in Kalaw, Myanmar since 2020, his practice explores Buddhist philosophy, memory and identity in the country's traditions and cultures. He has participated in exhibitions at Singapore Art Museum, Mori Art Museum, Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA), Gwangju Biennale, and Berlin Biennale, among others. A survey exhibition of Htein Lin’s work was held at Ikon Gallery in 2025.
เทน ลิน เป็นศิลปินผู้สร้างสรรค์งานในหลากหลายสาขา เป็นภัณฑารักษ์ และนักเขียนชาวเมียนมา เขาศึกษาด้านกฎหมายและศิลปะการแสดงแบบอันเย็น(ละครพื้นบ้านพม่า) ก่อนจะหันมาเรียนศิลปะทัศนศิลป์ในค่ายผู้ลี้ภัยบริเวณชายแดนประเทศอินเดียกับศิลปิน สิทธิ์ เนียน อะเย(Sitt Nyein Aye) หลังจากมีส่วนร่วมในการลุกฮือเพื่อประชาธิปไตยในปี พ.ศ. 2531 เขากลับมายังย่างกุ้งหลังจากลี้ภัยไปสี่ปี โดยทำงานเป็นนักแสดงตลกและเป็นผู้บุกเบิกศิลปะการแสดงเชิงทดลอง ในปี พ.ศ. 2541 เขาถูกกล่าวหาว่าทำกิจกรรมต่อต้านรัฐบาลและถูกคุมขังในฐานะนักโทษการเมืองจนถึงปี พ.ศ. 2547 หลังจากการปล่อยตัว ลินย้ายไปอยู่ที่สหราชอาณาจักร สร้างสรรค์ผลงานที่สะท้อนการเดินทางไปต่างประเทศและประสบการณ์พลัดถิ่นของเขา ตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2563 เขาใช้ชีวิตอยู่ที่กาหล่อว ประเทศเมียนมา ผลงานของเขาสำรวจปรัชญาพุทธศาสนา ความทรงจำ และอัตลักษณ์ในขนบธรรมเนียมและวัฒนธรรมของประเทศ เขาได้เข้าร่วมนิทรรศการที่ Singapore Art Museum, Mori Art Museum, Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA), Gwangju Biennale และ Berlin Biennale รวมถึงที่อื่น ๆ นิทรรศการสำรวจผลงานของเทน ลินจัดขึ้นที่ Ikon Gallery ในปี พ.ศ. 2568
