Born in former Czechoslovakia in 1967, Klara Kristalova moved to Sweden as a child and studied at the Royal University College of Fine Art, Stockholm. Her glazed ceramic figures inhabit strange, mysterious worlds inspired by Nordic storytelling and traditional myths. Peculiar, solitary, and vulnerable, they evoke fundamental emotions such as fear, love, sadness, and guilt. Landscape, although rarely depicted directly, remains essential to the psychological universe of her ceramics, drawings, and bronzes.
Kristalova’s six works come together as a mythical, living landscape where human, animal, and plant forms continuously overlap. Arranged across different levels of the space, the works appear as a gathering of strange and vulnerable beings, creating an uncertain space between fairy tale and contemporary reality, innocence and darkness. Through fairy-tale and mythological beings that exist between human and nature, she explores transformation through hybridity and vulnerability. These beings appear familiar yet uncanny, fragile yet resilient, inhabiting an uncertain space where boundaries remain fluid. Their transformation unfolds as an ongoing process of interconnection, decay, and renewal.
