Sonia Hamza is a Franco-Moroccan visual artist. Trained at ENSAA Duperré in Paris and Central Saint Martin’s in London, she also worked with photographer Manit Sriwanichpoom and tapestry master Claude-Marie Thibert-Boutou (Meilleur Ouvrier de France). Her practice merges photography and textiles through embroidered portraits, artist books, and photo series exploring identity and memory.
She has taken part in several international residencies, including Flâneur (Lisbon, 2016); Projet189 (Bangkok, 2017); Croisée (Lizières, 2019); Institut Français (Tétouan, 2023); and Goethe Institut (Lisbon, 2025). Her work has been shown in Pause Longue (Morocco, Portugal), Nippon Kiss (France, Thailand, Myanmar), and Bangkok’s Chinatown Beats to Its Own Drum (The Betsy, Miami, 2023). She received the Discovery Prize at Encontros da Imagem (2022), the Fix Photo Identity Award (2017), and Best Portfolio Review in Hamburg (2015).
She lives and works between France and Morocco.
