Sylvie Selig migrated to Melbourne in 1954, holding her first solo exhibition at age 17. After working as an illustrator in New York, she returned to Paris in 1970 to focus entirely on painting. Selig is renowned for her monumental, narrative-driven canvases that blend cinema and literature, such as the 140-meter River of No Return and the 50-meter embroidered work Stateless. In 2005, she began creating her Weird Family, a collection of over 40 sculptures made from recycled materials.
Her work gained major institutional recognition at the 16th Lyon Biennale (2022). Recently, macLYON acquired River of No Return following a major exhibition (2024), and she was featured in the Taipei Biennale (2025). Based in Paris, Selig has been represented by mor charpentier gallery since 2023.
