Tajliba is a video performance developed as part of the ongoing process-based project Boundaries of the Dreaming Body. The work traces echoes of an ecstatic Iraqi feminine dance form carrying resonances of Mesopotamian ritual across centuries of cultural transformation. Today, fragments of these embodied traditions continue to survive through vernacular Iraqi dance cultures and women whose practices have often remained socially marginalized. The work reflects on the fragile transmission of feminine bodily knowledge within environments where modernization further distances ancient mythologies tied to land, fertility, and feminine deities. Through movement, repetition, and gesture, Tajliba approaches the body as an unstable archive, one that remembers through rhythm, atmosphere, and inherited sensation rather than historical record.
